3 Buyer Fears: Commitment, Qualification, and Process
Today I’ll discuss and put to rest three common first-time buyer fears.
In my 16 years of working in this business, I find that a lot of first-time homebuyers seem to have the same fears: commitment, qualification, and process. Today I’ll discuss these fears and how we can help you as a homebuyer become confident in your transaction.
Commitment
Buyers tend to have a fear of financial commitment. This fear is about the long term; yes, your mortgage is a 30-year mortgage, but guess what? You can move anytime, unlike in an apartment, where you have to give a 30- to 90-day notice.
Buyers also have fears about the commitment of owning and managing a property. Yes, you’ll have to take responsibility for the maintenance of your property, meaning you’ll also have to budget. That’s something everyone needs to learn, and homeownership is just one way of cementing that skill in your mind.
“We’ll be there to help you be confident, qualified, and prepared for your home purchase.”
Qualification
Many are afraid of being told they don’t qualify for a mortgage. In reality, most loan officers will tell you one of three things when it comes to qualifying:
- You’re qualified and ready to look at houses.
- You have a little bit of work to do before you qualify.
- Let’s take a step back and figure out whether now is the appropriate time to buy a home.
When you’re qualifying for a mortgage, your credit will come into play. If your credit isn’t where it needs to be, the loan officer can give you advice about how to improve it so you can qualify. It’s a learning process that everyone goes through, but trust me: You’ll be glad you own your own home down the line.
Process
People often don’t fully understand the process of buying a home. When you work with me, I’ll break down all the steps from qualifying for a home loan to the eventual close. A lot goes into the process of buying a home, but we’ll be there to help you be confident, qualified, and prepared.
If you have any questions about buying a home or real estate in general, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you.
About Todd Martin

I have been in real estate for over 20 years. After owning an international real estate franchise for several years I realized that I could take better care of my clients and customers at the local level. With past experience in corporate america combined with 26yrs of service in the military (Navy, Army and Air Force) this seemed like the right move. I decided to open my real estate company and base the company on the highest level of customer service possible.
Over the years I have discovered that real estate is more than business. it is about life, whether you are starting out, moving up or simply settling down everyone I have ever had the pleasure of working with is in a different place in life. I understand and strive to make each experience unique and as meaningful as possible.
